Problem Note 49499: The error "Unexpected ERROR C003C829 from GENERATE PASSWORD" might occur when you try to access a SAS/SHARE® server library

DetailsAboutRate It

When you try to access a SAS/SHARE® server library, you might encounter the following error:

Error Message:

Unexpected ERROR C003C829 from GENERATE PASSWORD in "Kernel"(0) for user xxxxxx(2):

ERROR: Object does not exist. ERROR: Invalid object specified to bridge protocol engine.

User xxxxxxx(2) has disconnected from server __.

This error occurs when the SAS® Metadata Server is stopped and the trusted–user connection with the SAS/SHARE server is broken. In this situation, you must stop and then restart the SAS/SHARE server with the SAS Metadata Server if the trusted–user connection is in use when you start the SAS/SHARE server.

For configured SAS/SHARE servers in the second maintenance release for SAS® 9.3 (TS1M2), there are two workarounds:

  • The first workaround is to add an OPTIONS statement to the ShareServer_usermods.sas file. This file is available in the SAS–configuratio–directory\Levn\ShareServer directory. In the OPTIONS statement, specify non–trusted metadata user ID and password values for the METAUSER= and METAPASS= options, as shown in the following example:
    options metauser="sasadm@saspw" metapass="password"

In this example, password specifies a valid password for the SASADM internal user account.

  • The user ID and password are required in order to invoke the SAS/SHARE server. Adding the non–trusted user ID and password prevents the SAS/SHARE server from connecting to the SAS Metadata Server with the trusted user account when the SAS/SHARE server is invoked.

  • The second (and more recommended) workaround is to use the plan configured server's start and stop scripts to stop the SAS/SHARE server before you stop the SAS Metadata Server. Then the scripts automatically restart the SAS/SHARE server after the SAS Metadata Server is restarted.
